On the same day reports surfaced of a move by Sony to 11 Madison Avenue, bosses at the firm told workers: It’s not a done deal.
“We are currently in discussions regarding the tower floors at the iconic 11 Madison Avenue on Madison Park at 24-25th Street for our new headquarters,” wrote Sony president Nicole Seligman in the email to employees.
“It is a beautiful and historic building in the vibrant Flatiron neighborhood that would clearly fit our desire for a dynamic new location for our world-class entertainment and technology company and our employees. Sony would occupy a building within a building, with our own lobby and elevator bank and our own address, 25 Madison Avenue.
“However, despite what you may have heard elsewhere, this is not a done deal. It is not over until a lease is signed.”
The New York Post first reported on Tuesday that the Japanese company is taking more than 500,000 s/f at 11 Madison Avenue across from Madison Square Park in the heart of the Flatiron District.
The Sapir-owned 11 Madison Avenue is anchored by financial services group Credit Suisse, which would reportedly consolidate its offices in the bottom half of the 30-story tower.
In January, Sony sold its building at 550 Madison Avenue — which it purchased in 2002 from AT&T for $236 million – to the Chetrit Group for $1.1 billion.
