Cassidy Turley brokered an 11-year, 10,500 s/f lease at 230 West 17th Street for Callen-Lorde, a non-profit organization that specializes in providing health care and related services to New York’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities.
“Callen-Lorde was looking for a new space near its existing headquarters on West 18th Street – a tough feat in this tight Chelsea office market,” said David Lebenstein, senior managing director of Cassidy Turley’s Not-For-Profit Practice Group.
“This new location offers the space and layout Callen-Lorde needs to build out a new state-of-the-art primary care medical facility and a women’s health clinic.”
Although terms of the lease were undisclosed, the asking rent at the property was approximately $45 psf.
Lebenstein represented Callen-Lorde in the transaction; Michael Dublin and Hector Rodriguez of Savitt Partners represented the landlord, affiliates of Kamran Hakim and EK Properties.
Diana Lee of Mannat, Phelps and Phillips served as Callen-Lorde’s attorney and Adam Brodsky represented the landlord.
Callen-Lorde is well-known for promoting health education, wellness and serving as advocates on behalf of the gay, lesbian and transgender communities. Its grassroots heritage dates back more than 40 years to the St. Mark’s Community Clinic and the Gay Men’s Health Project, two volunteer-based clinics that provided screening and treatment for sexually-transmitted diseases.
230 West 17th Street, built in 1912, is an eight-story building located in Chelsea. It once served as space for Barney’s Warehouse.
The 53,168 s/f structure is home to St Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center West Village Outpatient Pharmacy, Cmp Builders, Inc. and Manhattan Imaging Assoc, P.C.
