The Flatiron /23rd Street Partnership Business Improvement District (BID) yesterday (Tuesday) flipped the switch on a giant, holiday installation, New York Light, as it launched the third annual “23 Days of Flatiron Cheer” seasonal events and activities in the district’s North Public Plaza.
“23 Days of Flatiron Cheer” is 23 days of free, holiday-themed events showcasing the intersection of shopping, dining, and culture.
Guests included Jennifer Brown, executive director, Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership; Wendy Feuer, Assistant Commissioner, Urban Design, Art & Wayfinding, New York City Department of Transportation; Jon Yaged, president, Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group; Stephen Meringoff, Principal, Meringoff Properties and; David van der Leer, Executive Director, Van Alen Institute.
At the event, attendees announced an initiative to encourage visitors to contribute to the Food Bank For New York City.
Anchoring “23 Days” this year is a holiday installation, selected through the first-ever Flatiron Plaza Holiday Design Competition, in which a curated list of designers and architects proposed concepts for the holiday season.
Designed by INABA, New York Light illuminates the plaza and provides visitors with a view of the Flatiron building and the Madison Square skyline this season.
The design is the result of a collaboration between the Brooklyn-based INABA, bengal.fierro, Tillotson Design Associates, Robert Silman Associates, Walsh Electrical Contracting Inc., DLC, International Lights, Crestron, Bartco Lighting, and Naho Kubota.
All holiday activities are featured online at www.FlatironDistrict.nyc. Sponsored by the Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership, “23 Days of Flatiron Cheer” is made possible with support from Presenting Sponsors Tiffany & Co. and Meringoff Properties, and Contributing Sponsors Grey Group and Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group.
