San Francisco-based multi-family investment firm Carmel Partners has purchased The Electra on the Upper East Side – the site of a deadly crane collapse in 2008 – for $95 million, city records show.
The 22-story mixed-use building at 354 East 91st Street features 163 residential units, with that portion making up just over 144,000 s/f; and a retail portion, occupied by drugstore Duane Reade, at nearly 8,000 s/f. The seller, New York City-based Forkosh Development, built the property in 2003.
“Nearly every home at The Electra features a private outdoor terrace, perfect for a lazy afternoon or a sunset dinner for two,” the company’s website states.
On May 30, 2008, the property bore the brunt of a fatal accident that sent the top of a crane positioned at neighboring 335 East 91st Street smashing into one of its penthouses. It then tore off a row of balconies before crashing to the street, killing two workers, injuring another. The crane reportedly damaged 45 apartments.
Carmel Partners and Forkosh Development did not return calls seeking comment.
