Currency trading firm FXCM Inc. appointed Aragon Construction, to complete a full-floor build-out at their corporate headquarters at 55 Water Street. The project was finalized in late February.
Aragon constructed the space in partnership with Milo Kleinberg Design Associates, (MKDA) and the Craven Corporation as the owner’s representative.
Encompassing the entire 50th floor, the project, consisting of a perimeter of offices and a large, open floor plan, will total about 67,000 s/f.
“We are excited to have completed this project on schedule, and we know that FXCM’s employees will be pleased with the results when they settle into their newly renovated office,” said Alex Getelman, president of Aragon Construction. “The needs of the client are always our top concern when conceiving and executing a project, and we are proud to have continued that tradition with this latest job.”
The large space has been constructed precisely to the clients’ specifications.
The open space is surrounded by a perimeter of offices and conference rooms, which are wired for two televisions and video conferencing, as well as a large IT area to handle the electronic trading equipment in the office.
The neutral palette of the space is warmed by dark red oak finishes on wood doors and frames.
The attractive reception area and lounge, as well as several conference rooms, remain from the previous tenants.
The intricate technology of the project involved wiring multiple work stations, some of which contain up to 16 monitors each.
“From past projects, we were aware that the significant wiring and IT components can be challenging” said Rick Coffey, senior vice president at Aragon Construction.
“So we planned for any possible challenges and closely monitored the entire process to avoid any complications.”
An aggressive schedule and considerable IT needs for this fast-moving financial firm were challenges for both the construction and design teams.
“A complex job such as this project requires organization and constant communication between construction, design, and the client,” said Joe Scarinci, project manager for MKDA. “Aragon not only managed this project on schedule, they also kept great lines of communication between themselves and the professional team throughout the project.”

55 Water Street was completed in 1972 by Emory Roth & Sons. Located on the river at Water Street and Hanover Square, the 54-story, 3.8 Million s/f office building is one of the largest office buildings in New York City.
FXCM moved into their new space from one block away at 32 Old Slip.
