
With completion still two years away, 56 Leonar in Downtown Manhattan has broken a major sales record.
The tower by Pritzker Prize-winning architects Herzog & de Meuron, has sold its top penthouse for $47 million, signifying the most expensive residence ever sold below 56th Street.
The building is now over 80% sold in just months, totaling $900 million n sales with over $200 million worth of residences sold in the last two weeks including multiple penthouse sales, according to Elizabeth Unger, senior sales director at 56 Leonard Street.
Penthouse 60 at 56 Leonard is not only the most expensive sale to ever go into contract below 56th Street, but, at 821 feet, will also be the physically highest sale ever Downtown.
The four-bedroom duplex with 19-foot ceilings features 360-degree views of the Manhattan skyline, direct elevator access into a private entry gallery, and a library, conservatory, exercise room, and formal dining room.
“Penthouse 60 offers the once in a lifetime opportunity to live sky-high in the heart of Tribeca. Herzog & de Meuron, creator of global landmarks such as Beijing’s “Bird’s Nest” stadium and London’s Tate Modern museum, designed the 60-story 56 Leonard with 145 cantilevered apartments , each with their own floor plan and private outdoor space.
The tower will have a specially commissioned work by Turner Prize winner Anish Kapoor at its base, the sculptor’s first permanent public work in New York.
Condominium prices range from $6.5 to over $30 million.
