The King Low Heywood Thomas (King) Boys Varsity Soccer team is hosting its inaugural King Cares Mother’s Day 5K, a three mile walk/run in Stamford’s South End on Saturday, May 11. The proceeds will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Stamford and the Orphaned Starfish Foundation. The race is sponsored by Colliers International.

Each year, the Boys Varsity Soccer team creates a communal fund raising event to support various organizations. Last year, the team raised money, volunteered and donated sports equipment to the Boys and Girls Club of Stamford. Another year, the team adopted an orphanage in Brazil for the holiday season, giving gifts, learning tools, living essentials, and holiday cheer for the children living there.

“For 2013, the team wanted to host an event that would get the entire community involved in a fun and healthy way, but still have the same philanthropic goals,” said Enzennio Mallozzi, Coach of the Boys Varsity Soccer Team at King Low Heywood Thomas and Managing Director in Colliers International’s Stamford office. “The Boys Varsity Soccer team looks forward to seeing everyone at the King Cares Mother’s Day 5K and raising the funds that will help two hardworking organizations continue their important work. We thank all of our participants and sponsors, and we hope everyone will take some on Saturday morning to run or walk the three miles for a good cause.”

Registration begins at 8:00 AM at Commons Park, 101 Washington Boulevard in Stamford. The race begins at 9:00 AM. Entry fees are $30 per individual, $50 per family, $15 for children ages 13 and under and $250 per teams of 10 participants or more. King has an established relationship with the Boys and Girls Club of Stamford, a dedicated youth facility serving more than 1,000 children, ages 6-18. The Club offers programs and services that promote and enhance child development.

The Orphaned Starfish Foundation is a non-profit that partners with orphanages in impoverished areas, providing the construction and operation of vocational training facilities. Each year orphans who reach the age of 16-18 are released in various parts of the world. With the training provided by Orphaned Starfish, approximately 80 to 90 percent of these children are able to provide for themselves and are either working full-time, married or attending college.

King Low Heywood Thomas is a private, co-educational day school for grades Pre-K–12 in Stamford. Founded in 1865, the school serves children and families in the Fairfield and Westchester County areas.
